Description
So first of all... oh my god! I copy-merged every layer and suddenly the lighting became amazing! Also, I figured out the shadows thing, none of my drawings will have accidental vampires anymore.
Anyway, this piece was a throwaway piece actually. I had lots of doubts starting this because the sketch was plain, and the lineart was terrible. When I blocked it, I just didn't see a good picture that could come out of it. But I kept going anyway because I want to move on. I was surprised that it turned out this well.
A bit of info, this is Rheto. Among all of my OCs, he's the most recent major character I've created. And by recent, I mean 2013. As usually the case with me and recent characters, his design hasn't been set in stone yet. He's not even a character in my novel-in-progress, although he was the centrepoint in my failed 2015 Nanowrimo novel set in parallel with the events of my novel-in-progress. All I know is that he's a 90's kid (2090's that is, no relation to the 1990's) and he's always tinkering with this ancient technology called 'the Radio'. Other details include that his dad is a cop and he does everything that would make cops annoyed (except outright crime). Think more like James Dean in Rebel Without A Cause.
This design is blatantly a shoutout to Ness/Ninten from Earthbound. Just remember, that hat bill is black! No, the X isn't from OFF... okay, maybe it is a little because I have a shirt just like it. Though, the real inspiration for the X comes from this Japanese t-shirt book I bought a couple years ago. The design was white tees with a black X. Whatever, it's edgy and 90's.
Overall, the moral of the story is, don't give up on your drawings just yet! Sometimes, there's a good drawing waiting to be free! Of course, I... might be giving up on this one because I want to move on. But I might pick it up again later for backgrounds or a redraw. What I want to add to this drawing is a jacket but this will do for now.
